I am thrilled to be a therapist on the NURTURE team. As a therapist, I approach each client with curiosity and deep respect. I believe strongly that all individuals and families have the capacity to experience healing and growth and to live with a sense of well-being. I see my role as supporting my clients in their unique journeys of self-understanding through connecting their past experiences to their present thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values, and behaviors through using evidence-based therapeutic techniques that fit each client’s and family’s goals and desires. I work with children/adolescents ages 10 and up, adult individuals, and couples.

As part of NURTURE’s team, I work exclusively as a Telehealth provider, meaning that sessions are conducted through a video platform online. After beginning with Telehealth in March 2020, I have come to embrace the many benefits that it can have for therapy. These benefits include increased flexibility for clients to schedule when it works for them, no travel time to and from an office, engaging in therapy from the comfort of one’s home, and for parents or couples being able to schedule sessions for after children are in bed or during a lunch break with no need for a babysitter. I have found that online therapy is just as effective as in person therapy when there is the same foundation of trust, safety, and security in the therapeutic relationship. If you are interested but concerned about this approach, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions!

Outside of my work, I am a mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, in-law, and friend. I love to be physically active, cook, garden, play music, and read.

The ability to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families on their mental wellness journeys — to the point where they no longer need my presence — is a privilege I cherish. Since my love for this field began in 2015, I’ve worked with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in multiple states, sat on the Board of Directors for AFSP in Delaware, created and facilitated programming at a peer-support center, facilitated a therapeutic group for bereaved families, and worked with numerous individuals and families of many different cultures, religions, genders, sexual orientations, and family structures one-on-one. I hold two master’s degrees, the first in Education and the second in Counseling Psychology in addition to my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I believe the therapy room is an incredibly unique space that can be molded into each client’s equally unique needs (much like a room of requirement for any Harry Potter fans). This means that my focus as a therapist is to ensure that my clients’ experiences are always individualized to who they are and what they need, and that they leave my room understanding more about themselves and how they live in the world.

Life is often referred to as a “marathon,” but mine felt more like an American ninja warrior course. I was moving at full throttle and suddenly every issue in my life crashed down on me at once. I was “stuck.” And if you are reading this right now, I would venture to say I’m not alone in that feeling. It was hard for me to admit, but I knew I could no longer fight my battles on my own. That single act of courage and vulnerability completely changed my life. It wasn’t until my own pursuit of inner healing that I became inspired to deliver that same hope, peace, and resilience to those in need. It is one of my life’s greatest honors to be able to do this at NURTURE.

Before becoming a part of the NURTURE team, I have been privileged to serve families in a variety of different contexts. For nearly 7 years, I provided Faith-based counseling and life coaching for all ages. Most of my time and expertise was devoted to helping elementary to college age students navigate through the muddy waters of relationships, emotions, suicide, depression, anxiety, identity, and “church hurt.” For two years, I served the Flint community as a registered addictions counselor and grief group facilitator. Currently, I am blessed to be the counselor for a local Fenton business, as well as the amazing NURTURE Tribe. I spend my time with my lovely wife and three children.

I love working with anyone and everyone, but my heart has grown fond of:

  • Helping students and young adults find hope and purpose

  • Helping individuals understand their emotions and be able to express them with confidence

  • Helping individuals and couples find meaningful connection

  • Helping individuals navigate complex grief and loss

  • Helping individuals navigate spiritual trauma and growth

I am a lifelong learner and strive to always increase my knowledge and skill in evidence-based therapeutic techniques for families, individuals and children. I believe we are all the masters of our own fate and can learn from all of our experiences, both joyful and difficult. I have a strong passion for parenting, family dynamics and helping individuals see the connections between childhood and adult patterns.

I, as everyone, wear many hats.  I am a wife, mother of three children, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, in-law and friend.  I believe in therapy to my core and wish to spread the many positive outcomes of counseling to the Fenton community.  It is my hope that one day therapists will be viewed as a part of every family "team," similar to that of an attorney, health provider or accountant.  It really does take a village!

Jenn Scieszka - Yoga, Somatic Therapy and Embodiment Work + Direction of Operations

I am a yoga and somatic coach and breathwork practitioner dedicated to promoting holistic well-being through the integration of yoga and mindful breathing techniques. I’m passionate about helping individuals achieve mental, emotional, and physical balance for a healthier, more harmonious life. I help facilitate healing through the exploration of mind-body connections. At NURTURE we do this by helping individuals overcome trauma and stress by fostering awareness of bodily sensations and promoting self-discovery. Guiding clients towards a deeper understanding of themselves for lasting transformation and well-being.

I am also a wife, mother of four beautiful children and a garden & farming enthusiast.

I have been with the NURTURE family for six years and also do much of the behind the scenes work, including being the first point of contact for incoming clients and families.

Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone’s hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.
